From the TBA President
I hope that you have been able to take advantage of the warmer than usual weather that we've been having to get in some riding. Today's New Year's Day ride in Norfolk was the warmest that I can remember. Undoubtedly the weather was instrumental in bringing out nearly 40 riders for TBA's annual New Years Day event.
Many thanks are due once again to John McKee for organizing this, his 14th year of doing so.
Everyone had a great time. At one point it almost looked like a family reunion, with many friends from many different bike groups reconnecting. The camaraderie and support that Tidewater area cyclists show each other, including newcomers, is unbelievable.
Shifting gears, you won't want to miss our Jan. 11th membership meeting at the Va Beach Central Library. Our own Touring VP, Paul Gordy, will be presenting on a group tour of the Adirondack Mtns that he recently lead.
Outside of a handful of us long haul truckers few know how skilled of a touring cyclist that Paul is, to the point of having a well earned reputation throughout the eastern U.S. Paul can trek up a mountain road toting a 45 lb pack faster than many on bare road bikes. Around the flatlands of Tidewater Paul is known for being the fastest cyclist that anyone has ever seen on a bike with a kickstand!
So come on out for what will surely be an interesting and informative presentation.
Finally, I'd like to say how privileged I feel to start the New Year as your club president. TBA has a long and proud history, which I am honored to help continue. See you on the road!
ride safely,
Bruce
