    TBA General Membership Meeting

GUESTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! Please invite your friends.

Every other month throughout the year we hold a general membership meeting.  This months meeting will be in Norfolk at the new Slover Memorial Library in the large 6th floor community engagement room.  The room is two stories high, has glass walls and a balcony to look over the city of Norfolk.

    How to get there?
Best option is the light rail to MacArthur Square or parking on street (free if you can find a spot) or MacArthur Mall parking garage for about $3.

We will have several different events due to having a larger than normal space.

TBA legend Fran Adams will provide a 15 minute presentation with pictures and stories on her Great Allegheny Passage trip.

Bring some bike gear and CLEAN parts to swap or trade with others. The library is new, let's help keep it looking great.

TBA members are doing great things for the bicycling community.  Come learn more about them here.

Joe and Polly Frease lead the TBA Cycling Legs Against Multiple Sclerosis (CLAMS) team.  The group has raised in over $575,000 in donations for MS and had a lot of fun together riding in the annual MS150 bicycle ride.

Mike Rogers leads TBAs Team Tour de Cure to fight diabetes.  Mike is passionate about both bicycling and finding a cure for Diabetes.

Paul Gordy leads regular TBA weekly rides and plans weekend to 10 day loaded bike tours to places like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Vermont, Grand Canyon, circling the Chesapeake Bay, NC Outerbanks, the baseball park tour and many more.

Cindy Lewis leads the Cindy Lou TBA Community "Coffee Shop" ride.  Her ride is family friendly through Norfolk, frequently stopping for a meal at a local restaurant and Cindy takes plenty of pictures along the way.

Barry Stiffler leads fun and fast TBA rides on Saturday and Sundays.  Barry's Sunday Kempsville to Ghent, to Norfolk Base, Airport and return to Kempsville ride is always popular.

Fran Adams and TBAs Youthful, Energetic, Seniors in Spandex (YESS) group holds regular rides departing from the Chesapeake Dismal Swamp Canal Trail.

Hal Heafner and the Chuckatuck Chainring call themselves an epicurean cycling society.  They usually ride ~50 miles, three times a week.

Brent Fulton leads Rogue Velo Junior Development, a junior cycling organization with a goal to instill the sport of cycling in today's youth.

Mike Evans and Eco Chef are TBA members serving on the board of Bike Norfolk.  Come hear about the their initiatives to improve bicycling.

John Mayer and Team Portsmouth create a safe, supportive and social bicycling group.  They also ride together at these events to raise funds for charities: TBA Knotts Island Century, MS150, and Tour de Cure.

Jon Nye will be sharing about his bicycle initiatives at the Hub.

Are you a TBA member doing something good for our bicycling community?  Please contact Travis Davidson at 757-287-7538 or president@tbairdes.org to participate in the expo.

Great Ride + Great Food! Come Share the Camaraderie

The Tidewater Bicycle Association proudly presents our signature event, the 39th Annual Knotts Island Century ride. One of the ride’s highlights is that the English and Metric Century both cross the Currituck Sound on the North Carolina State Ferry, from opposite sides.

This year's registration includes SAG support, tasty food/rest stops, sports drinks, cue sheets and marked routes.  Also included is a post ride meal for each rider and volunteer.  An optional commemorative T-Shirt is also available.

    · Great opportunity for a ride with family and friends
    · Great Training Ride for Upcoming Special Events such
as the MS150, Tour de Cure, and breakaway rides
    · Ride with a Group, even if you are alone!
    · Funds raised by the KI Century help further TBA's education
      and advocacy efforts.
    Thank you for your support!

                               Five Routes Options

These riders will pass each other at the Knotts Island Ferry landing. Both routes will bike through the Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge on NC route 615 – a beautiful stretch of road with wildlife and scenery – remember to enjoy the view!

The English Century riders will bike 26 miles directly to Currituck, NC and take the 9:00 a.m. ferry to Knotts Island. Upon landing at about 10 a.m., they will bike 75 miles through Virginia Beach and Chesapeake back home to the Wallaceton Ruritan Club.

The Metric Century riders will bike ~34 miles directly to Knotts Island Ferry Landing and take the
10:00 a.m. or 12:00 noon ferry to Currituck, North Carolina. Upon landing ~45 minutes later they will bike ~34 miles back through Currituck and Camden counties and Chesapeake to the Wallaceton Ruritan Club.

These routes head South to North Carolina and are designed for people who don't want to ride the ferry, prefer a shorter distance or want something different than our traditional ferry routes.

The English Century (No Ferry Option) riders will bike 101 miles through Currituck and Camden Counties, rural Chesapeake and Va Beach, then back home to the Wallaceton Ruritan Club.

The Metric Century (No Ferry Option) riders will bike 69 miles through Currituck and Camden Counties and rural Chesapeake, then back to the Wallaceton Ruritan Club.

The Half Metric Century riders will bike 36 miles along country roads to the Moyock fire station rest stop and then travel to Triple R Ranch rest stop and back to the Ruritan Club.
