Breakaway (Out-of-Town) Rides: Sunday August 17, 2008 All Paces 62, 31 & 15 mile rides Covered Bridge Ride Lancaster, PA Come and enjoy, with us, the Lancaster Bicycle Club's 30th annual Covered Bridge Metric Century, on Sunday August 17, 2008. These 100, 50 and 25 kilometer (62, 31 & 15 mile) rides wind their way through some of Pennsylvania's most famous rural scenery, including six covered bridges. The terrain is rolling with a few hills on the 100K ride and flat to moderately rolling on the 50K & 25K rides. The rewards are stunning vistas of the richest farmland in America. Several TBAers make a weekend of this great event and join the Lancaster Bicycle Club for a Saturday morning ride. We set up a base camp at Big Meadows campground and ride the Drive. Plan on camping Friday and Saturday night with rides on Saturday and Sunday. Campsite reservations are recommended. Last year we rode back and forth to Luray, VA on Saturday and some took and optional ride on Sunday. LOTS of challenging climbs! No SAG and food/water is scarce en route, so each cyclist should carry snacks and lots of water.

Friday night. 12th Annual Tour de CanalSeptember 6-7, 2008
The Tour de Canal is a challenging bike ride fundraiser to benefit the Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area Chapter. This supported off-road bike ride takes place along the scenic Chesapeake & Ohio Canal starting in Cumberland, MD and ending in Georgetown in Washington, DC.
Riders may choose from three different ride distances: · 184 miles - Tackles the entire length of the C&O Canal over two days beginning in Cumberland, MD and ending in Washington, DC. It’s the longest off-road charity bike ride in the country. · 100 miles – Takes in the most scenic stretches of the C&O Canal over two days (50 miles on Saturday; 50 miles on Sunday) · 20 miles – The Memory Ride is a low-key Sunday afternoon excursion starting and returning to Georgetown. It allows less experienced riders to participate in the fun and join all of the tour riders in the finish line victory party. This is a ride families can enjoy together.
In order to participate in either the 184-mile or the 100-mile ride, riders must complete a 50-mile qualifying ride along the C&O Canal prior to the Tour. A free training ride program is available to help riders prepare for the challenge.
