2008 Mileage Log Message from New Touring VP: New Ride Leaders Wanted * NEW * Submit ride proposals to touring@tbarides.org by the Wednesday prior to the ride for website only listings! Spring is around the corner, and so is warmer weather. While you are dusting off and/or tuning up your bicycle, consider these questions: Do you wish there were more rides on your favorite routes? Are ride times inconvenient for you? Do you want rides to start closer to your house? Do you hate driving to take to take a bike ride? Do you want more rides to choose from? Do you want to see your name in the “Spokin Word”? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you should become a ride leader. The only requirements to be a ride leader are: 1. Be a current TBA member. 2. Be familiar with a route. 3. Pick a starting place on your route and decide what pace you want to ride at. 4. Be familiar with the TBA Ride Leader’s Handbook. 5. Print out a ride roster to bring with you. 6. Send a ride description to touring@tbarides.org no later than the 10th of the month prior to your ride to be printed in the printed “Spokin Word”. Please follow the ride format layout contained within this newsletter when making your submissions. Steve Zeligman, Vice President (Touring) "Bicycling is a big part of the future. It has to be. There's something wrong with a society that drives a car to workout in a gym." - Bill Nye, the Science Guy |
Ride Paces are as follow: A = 19 to 21 MPH with very few stops. B = 16 to 18 MPH with some stops. C = 13 to 15 MPH with some stops. D = 10 to 12 MPH with frequent stops. To Lead a Ride:
1. All proposed rides must be scheduled via
Steve Zeligman (Touring VP) at
touring@tbarides.org or 285-9085. Ride information needs to be
submitted to Steve by the 8th of the month of the month prior to the
ride to be published in the printed newsletter. 2. All ride leaders must be TBA members. 3.Ride pace classifications are a ride’s planned physical effort, not overall average speed. 4. If the ride’s weather is in doubt, call the leader before you go. He/she may have cancelled. 5. Leaders: a Ride Roster will be completed by the ride leader on all scheduled TBA rides. Be sure all guest riders sign the assumption of risk. 6. A responsible adult must accompany members who ride under the age of 18. 7. Helmets are required on all TBA Rides! |
