    Blue Ridge Parkway Weekend

Join us for a weekend of stunning views, beautiful fall colors, and tough climbs on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP).  We will use the Lynchburg NW / Blue Ridge Parkway KOA Campground (*formerly known as Wildwood Campground) as a base camp, and you can cycle as much or as little as you like.  Scheduled rides include a 50-mile ride on Saturday starting from H & H Restaurant at 8:30am (or arrive at 7:30am to join us for breakfast) and going south to MP85.7 (Peaks of Otter Restaurant) for lunch (with a spectacular view) and return.  The trip to Peaks of Otter takes you from the lowest point on the BRP (MP63.6, 668 ft.) where it crosses the James River, to the highest point on the BRP in VA (MP 76.5, 3950 ft.) atop Apple Orchard Mountain.  Bring lots of water for this 12-mile, 3,300' climb!  The 12-mile downhill on the way back is reward for your hard work!  No SAG support.  Optional rides if you arrive early on Friday and on Sunday morning.  Meals at local restaurants or cook in camp (see below).

Camping at Lynchburg NW / Blue Ridge Parkway KOA Campground (*formerly known as Wildwood Campground):  6252 Elon Rd., Monroe, VA  24574 (*from MP61 on the BRP, go 1 mile east on SR-130).  *We typically reserve a group tent camping site and split the total costs per person / per night – contact Paul for details.

H & H Restaurant (breakfast, dinner):  H & H Food Market, 11619 Lee Jackson Hwy, Big Island, VA  24526 (5 miles from campground on US Rt. 501), (434) 299-5153, open 7:30am – 8:30pm.  You can also cook in camp if you prefer.

Peaks of Otter Restaurant (lunch on Saturday):  MP85.7, open 11:30am – 3:30pm for lunch.

    Oktoberfest Ride
    Big Ugly Brewery

Come join your fellow cyclists for a beautiful and scenic fall ride through the Chesapeake countryside. We will have four different pace/distance options ranging from 26 to 55 kilometers (16-34 miles).

The ride will be followed by traditional German fare (food). So brush up on your German and break out your Lederhosen.  Big Ugly brewing will have a variety of beer selections available for purchase.

Bikes on the road at 9 am and Brats with fixings upon return. Helmets are required and cue sheets will be available.

Food tickets using online registration are free for TBA members, $5 for guests. In order that we have an accurate head count, registration ends on Thursday, Oct 19th.

Just the ride only (no food ticket) is free and no registration is required.

We hope you'll join us for this fall ride and Oktoberfest with fellow cyclists and friends. Volunteers are asked to contact Mike Rogers at mikerogers53@cox.net.

The Virginia Capital Trail (VCT), fully completed as of Fall 2015, is an amazing cycling destination!  It has dozens of beautiful bridges, passes through scenic woods and farmlands, and is nicely paved the entire way.  On this TBA ride, we will cycle the entire 52 miles of the VCT from Jamestown to Richmond, eat lunch at the end of the trail in Richmond at "Bottoms Up Pizza" (excellent pizza, burgers, sandwiches, etc.), then cycle the 52-mile trail back to Jamestown (104 miles total).  Restrooms, water, and convenience stores are located along the trail, and are listed on the Cue Sheet (available using links below – hardcopies will also be provided at the ride start).

To allow time for sign-in and pre-ride briefing, please plan to arrive by no later than 7:15 a.m., to be ready for a 7:30 a.m. start.

      Remember to Bring:

    • Bike Helmet – helmets are required on all TBA rides;  no helmet = no ride!
    • Bike Lock – to lock up your bike at the lunch stop
    • Front & Rear Lights – we should finish before dark, but bring lights just in case – the trail is not lit and wooded sections could get very dark later in the day
    • Money $$ – for lunch at "Bottoms Up Pizza" at the at the halfway point (end of the trail) in Richmond
    • Snacks for along the route – there is no SAG for this ride
